Cahors
As it flows to meet the Garonne, the river Lot cuts through the great Causse plateau, a limestone highland which produces nearly as many truffles as the Perigord. On either side of the Lot for 50 kilometres, between the small town of Cahors and Soturac, lie the vineyards of Cahors. The king grape here is Malbec (known locally as Auxerrois). The wines of Cahors are often described as “black” and are usually full-bodied reds which benefit from bottle age and time to breathe before drinking.
