Languedoc
The Languedoc area is located north of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, around the town of Montpellier. There’s a huge diversity of soils in the Languedoc depending on where you are: terraces of rolled pebbles or shingle, sandstone and marl, limestone and schist, clay, fine sandy soil, basalt… they are what make each Languedoc terroir different from the next.
In the Languedoc, France’s southern-most region, the climate is predominantly Mediterranean, with temperatures rarely falling below freezing. Rainfall is low whilst the omnipresent Tramontane wind helps prevent plant disease. These are ideal conditions for growing grapes.
The balance, complexity and special character of Languedoc wines are due to the grape varieties being adapted to the terroir and the savoir faire of the producers.
