Ch Rieussec
For several generations, Chateau Rieussec has been the leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked “Beyond any of the others, Rieussec produces wines very similar to Yquem wines”.Chateau Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild in 1984. To enhance Chateau Rieussec’s potential, strict measures were implemented. Since 1985, drasctic measures have been taken by Domaines Barons de Rothschild to restore the Rieussec legacy.
Classified as a First Growth in 1855, Chateau Rieussec is located in Fargues. Rieussec is one of the biggest estates of Sauternes with 92 hectare of vines, situated on the communes of Sauternes and Fargues, high above the Garonne River, in a small area adjacent to Chateau d’Yquem. The vineyard is planted Semillon (90%), Muscadelle (3%) and Sauvignon Blanc (7%) with the average age being 25 years.
