Alquier
Sheltered by the foothills of the Cevennes, the final natural barrier before the Mediterranean, the Faugères vineyards are set on steep, south-facing slopes.
A family-owned domaine spanning five generations, Domaine Bardi-Alquier is one of the best-known names in the Languedoc appellation of Faugères. Domaine Bardi-Alquier is the benchmark for the appellation and is considered one of the Grand Crus of the Languedoc. Jean-Michel Alquier took over the winemaking here with the death of his father Gilbert in 1989. The wines are very impressive, and must rank at or near the top of the appellation on this showing. In 2018, Sophie and Thibaud Bardi de Fourtou joined the estate.
There are both red and white wines produced here, with two reserve cuvees Les Bastides and La Maison Jaune, which are aged in oak. In addition there is a basic red Faugères which is a superb example of what can be expected from the appellation. The white wines are dominated by the Rhone varieties of Marsanne, Rousanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc.
